Mary and I started our Krav Maga teacher training together 9 years ago. She has gone on to become a revered teacher and I’m so very proud of her accomplishments. What makes this 2nd session even more exciting, is Joey Barnitz is also coming. Joey is one of the most charismatic and fun teachers you will ever meet. He has the energy of 100 energizer bunnies, and is so patient, yet relentless with his talent and skill and loves to teach!
Krav Maga is a military self-defense and fighting system developed for the IDF derived from the best of boxing, wrestling, Aikido, judo and karate, along with realistic fight training.
Imi Lichtenfeld, the creator developed this system while living in Bratslava in the pogroms, and went on to International fame for its focus on real-world situations and its extreme efficiency.
From the outset, the original concept was to take the most simple and practical techniques and to make them rapidly teachable.
The yoga philosophy of Ahimsa (part of the study of 8-limbed yoga written in the Sutras by Patanjali), that I was taught in India, matches the Krav Maga concepts. I was asked to give a brief statement about Ahimsa while studying at the KYM. Although it means abstinence from violence in thought, a mental attitude where hatred is replaced by love and it implies compassion and cosmic love, it also means non-injury and non-harming. Krav Maga was developed for the purpose of defending. Dharma is equally essential and we must have the tools to defend ourselves, maintaining awareness of our surroundings while dealing with a threat and expanding on instinctive responses under stress.
These are just a few of the aspects of Krav Maga that you will learn from Mary, Joey and Bubba, and we can’t be more excited!
