Ashtanga yoga (Heated to 85 degrees) is a system of yoga transmitted to the modern world by Sri K Pattabhi Jois (1915-2009), one of Krishnamacharya’s students. This method involves synchronizing breath with a progressive series of postures and taking 5-8 breaths in each of the postures. This is a process producing intense internal heat and a profuse purifying sweat that detoxifies muscles and organs. The result is improved circulation, a light and strong body and a calm mind. Ashtanga (Sanskrit for eight-limbed) is named after the eight limbed yoga mentioned in “Yoga sutras of Patanjali”.
